As a 16 year-old Thomas Burger fell in love with mountain climbing. Mountains became his drug of choice and the addiction of ever increasingly complex climbs led him and a friend to attempt the infamous Eiger North Wall free of cumbersome safety ropes. More than half way up the over 1800 meter high “wall” a sudden and violent snowstorm stopped their progress and forced them to return down the now icy vertical drop. Failing to reach the bottom the two mountaineers found a ledge on which to rest until the storm abated.

Nine days later and after a series of unexplainable coincidences the rescue helicopter found the two teenagers. Worldwide headlines heralded the life saving rescue as nothing short of miraculous. As a result of the severe frostbite, however, Thomas’s hospital treatment lasted one year and he was finally released with the doctor’s diagnosis of “never again able to walk without crutches”.
Thomas took his crutches and after much searching found Dynamic Integration®. He learned to walk and eventually trained himself as a DI® therapist, a professional ski teacher and certified High mountain tour guide. During this time he also made himself a name in powder snow skiing with his „4basics“™ concept.
Thomas has trained corporate management and as protagonist and screenplay writer Thomas worked on several television productions starting in 1988 and culminating in 1999 with the documentary film of the mountaineering experience that nearly took his life.
Thomas' experiences greatly add to his work as a trainer and his workshops in personal development, based on the concept that participants need to write and live their own screenplay. Using the Eiger North Wall as a metaphor for life, it’s about personal growth through choices; choosing freedom and creating a happy and fulfilling life.
